Beginner Scratch Coding Camp (Ages 8–14)
Turn Screen Time into Creative Time!
Join us for a FREE beginner-friendly Scratch coding camp designed for children ages 8–14 with no prior coding experience.
In this hands-on camp, students will learn the basics of computer programming by creating 2-4 fun animated projects in Scratch, the world’s leading beginner programming platform developed by MIT. Through creative storytelling and interactive activities, students will explore essential coding concepts while bringing their own animations to life.
What Students Will Learn
- Introduction to the Scratch programming environment
- How to use blocks to create programs
- Motion, looks, sound, and events
- Loops and conditionals
- Creative problem-solving and computational thinking
Projects
Students will build two animated Scratch projects, giving them the opportunity to practice programming concepts in a fun and engaging way. By the end of the camp, they’ll have completed projects they can continue exploring and sharing at home.

Meet Your Student Instructor: Yichu Zhao
Yichu is a 8th-grade student in the Neenah Middle School Magnet Program. He has enjoyed coding from a young age and received a Scratch Outstanding Project Award at age 7. He has also participated in FIRST LEGO League (FLL) competitions and studied VEX Robotics.
Passionate about math, chess, and coding, Yichu has volunteered to teach Scratch to younger children. He hopes to inspire beginners to discover the fun of coding through creative, hands-on projects.
This camp is led by Student Instructor Yichu with guidance and supervision from Valley Robotics Club mentors.
